How to Wash and Store Japanese Denim

How to Wash and Store Japanese Denim

Our lightweight Japanese denim offers effortless elegance, offering a soft drape and breathable comfort that make it a cherished addition to any wardrobe. Unlike traditional heavy or rigid denim, our fabric is designed for those who appreciate a more fluid and comfortable fit. To preserve its luxurious feel and ensure longevity, attentive care is essential.

Washing

To maintain the pristine condition of your denim, it's advisable to wash it sparingly, ideally after several wears. This approach prevents unnecessary wear and fading.

  • Hand Washing: Immerse your garment inside out in cold water mixed with a mild, pH-neutral detergent suitable for delicate fabrics. Gently agitate without wringing to prevent distortion.

  • Machine Washing: If opting for machine washing, place the denim inside a mesh laundry bag to protect it from friction. Use a gentle cycle with cold water and mild detergent, ensuring the garment is turned inside out to minimise surface abrasion.

Drying

Proper drying is crucial to maintain the fabric's shape and texture.

  • Air Drying: Lay the denim flat on a clean, dry towel or a mesh drying rack, reshaping it gently to its original form. Avoid hanging, as the weight of the water can cause stretching. Allow it to air dry away from direct sunlight or heat sources to prevent color fading.

Ironing

To remove wrinkles and restore the fabric's smooth drape:

  • Preparation: Turn the garment inside out and ensure it's slightly damp.

  • Temperature Setting: Use a low to medium heat setting appropriate for cotton fabrics.

  • Protective Layer: Place a clean, thin cloth over the denim to act as a barrier between the iron and the fabric.

  • Ironing Process: Gently press the iron onto the fabric without applying excessive pressure, moving smoothly along the grain to avoid stretching.

Storage

Proper storage ensures that your lightweight denim retains its quality between wears.

  • Folding: Neatly fold the garment to prevent stretching and creasing.

  • Storage Environment: Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Consider placing the denim in a breathable cotton garment bag to protect it from dust and pests.

By embracing these care practices, your Japanese denim pieces will continue to offer effortless style and comfort, remaining a cherished part of your wardrobe for seasons to come.
